Whimsical Summer Lookbook - Collab with Liana Prinzevalli

Recently, I was lucky enough to collab with one of my dear friends, Liana. She is an amazing makeup artist and beauty blogger, and I'm so excited that we were finally able to do our first collab (of many)! She did my hair and makeup for this shoot, and—well, just see for yourself!

I mean, just look at that highlight! She made me look like a princess! (Not pictured—the zig-zag part she gave me. Can we please make that a trend again?)

Liana is super talented, and I highly recommend you check out her blog to see how to get this heatless summer updo and light makeup look! Read onward to see how we styled this look for summer with some of my handmade creations!

As a girl who’s pretty full-figured, I don’t normally go for babydoll dresses. But then, I thought: Why not? What’s stopping me from wearing this cute and super comfy looking style? So, I made one! I bought this shirt from the thrift store (it was originally meant to be part of my Dwight Schrute costume for Halloween last year, but that fell through) and removed the sleeves, added darts, and tried out some decorative stitching on the collar.

I then went shopping for a matching fabric—unfortunately I couldn’t find anything I liked secondhand, so I did end up buying this print from the fabric store. I did, however, upcycle some old buttons to continue the buttoned-down look on the front of the dress! And yes, this is just as comfy as it looks.

This outfit is composed of a thrifted shirt and an upcycled skirt. Believe it or not (it’s probably pretty easy to believe with this print) this skirt was once a tablecloth. I had my eyes on it since the day my mom brought it home and I was quick to snatch it up once she got a new table and didn’t need it anymore.

I love how the colors in this skirt are basically perfect for any season. Plus, it’s colorful enough to make a statement but the hues aren’t so bright that they’re obnoxious and in-your-face. I just love this skirt and how I can basically wear it with anything at any time. It’s definitely one of my go-to’s.

I’ve made the skirt that I’m wearing in this outfit twice. This was the first skirt I made back in 2013 when I really started getting into sewing. I made it from scratch and did a terrible job—the hem was like a roller coaster and the stitches were a nightmare. Years later I dug it out, picked apart all the seams, and re-made it. This time, I added some lace trim, because of course when I was starting out I cut the skirt too short, too. Adding a trim is one of my favorite ways to elongate a skirt and to make a simple piece a little bit more elegant. Come to think of it, I’ve really been dying to jump on the pom-pom trim bandwagon lately, too…

The shirt I’m wearing with it was thrifted, and all I did to alter it was to take off the sleeves and clean up the hem!

That's it for today! Thanks for reading and don't forget to check out Liana's post over on lianaprinzevalli.com. You can follow her on Insta, too: @makeupbyliana!
